SAZ_2Sedona, AZ is known for the beautiful red rock formations that surround the town. And we came to Sedona to video that beauty in creation for the glory of Christ. After arriving in Sedona, however, we found the most obvious presence of mysticism and idol worship I’ve ever seen. In researching for this documentary, I’ve read about the connections between hummingbirds and ancient worship practices. Many times when we hear of things like Buddha worship, we think of the ancient past, or a far off land. However, I wanted to show you this continuation of ancient mysticism in modern times.

There were multiple brochures telling of various places and offering tours of “spiritual sites.” You could even spend time meditating during the tour. The ad for one site said all faiths were welcomed to visit the site, explaining that anyone could “gain enlightenment” and that there were statues representing a number of beliefs. It’s worth noting here how they will welcome anything except the name of Jesus (for the Gospel of Christ reveals all other gods as false) – Read Acts 17:22-34

Many businesses in Sedona featured words like “spirit” and “magic” in their names, to attract this important source of tourism. The popularity of such things in Sedona shows how many are looking for answers and purpose in life. Since coming home, I’ve even heard of “spiritual retreats” in other parts of the country.

Seeing someone walking in circles, head-down, around a stupa (kind of a shrine structure) reminded me of Romans 1 saying that; “professing to be wise, they became fools.” If you are walking circles in the worship of false gods; know that Jesus is the way of salvation – straight and sure. The Bible does not ask us to walk in circles in the hope of finding answers (before getting dizzy). Jesus said to simply ask and it will be given; starting with forgiveness of sin. The key purpose of Refracted Glory is to present the truth; life and forgiveness that is only found in Jesus.

And if you’re a Christian, know that there are people like this around you who need the Gospel.

“….we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent…” Acts 17:29-30
