CWVFF 2015 awards

In March, I spent a week in Texas at the Christian Worldview Film Festival.  Talking with other film professionals — seeing friends from other states and meeting new faces — was fantastic.  One evening, an entire Pizza Hut was filled with Christian filmmakers, a scene duplicated over many restaurants that week.

The event featured 80 films, plus 6 showcase films and musical performances. There were around 1,000 people attending throughout the week and 14 awards were presented at the closing ceremony.

“Polycarp” won Best Feature and Audience Choice.  The Best Documentary award went to “One Generation Away” ( “Torchlighters : The John Wesley Story” received Best Gospel Presentation and “Bound” won Best Animated Film.

Driven by an extraordinary performance by Garry Nation, Rusty Martin (“Courageous”) and Eliya Hurt; “Polycarp” is based on the historical person of Polycarp. Nation made his film debut as Rabbi Meir in “Indescribable” (Thorn Crown Project, 2013) and will also appear in the upcoming “My Grandpa Detective”.  Polycarp was directed by 20-year-old Joseph Henline and written by his older sister Jerica.

Dale Mason of Answers In Genesis hosted the premiere of “The Wild Brothers” on Thursday night. This is a fun series about four missionary kids in the jungle of Southeast Asia.

“Princess Cut” (directed by Paul Munger) was the runner-up for Best Feature, Audience Choice and Best Music Score.  The Best Inspirational Short Film went to “Now Or Never” and two movies were awarded Best Short Film; “Roses” and “Wanted”.

Also during the awards, Brett Varvel (House of Grace Films, “The War Within”) announced his next production, “Disciples In the Moonlight“.  They hope to start filming later this year.  In this movie “Religious terrorism has rocked the foundation of present-day America. A former pastor faces his toughest test — he must recruit a team to smuggle Bibles to seven underground churches in Ohio, Kentucky, and Illinois with an NSA agent hot on his trail.”  Visit the Facebook page for more :
